Building Product Manufacturers and BIM
Collaborating in the BIM process is becoming a key business issue for Building Product Manufacturers (BPM’s), which not only drives the need for closer interactions with their AEC customers but also provides a great opportunity for BPM’s to win new business. By effectively supporting the needs of the AEC customer, BPM's can increase their chances of winning business, developing long-term customer relationships, and differentiating them from the competition.
By providing BIM-ready information of their product earlier at the design development stage of the building project, BPM's can gain an advantage in getting specified at an earlier stage of the building project and winning the bid. As project designs are finalized, BPM's models can be incorporated to validate the design and performance characteristics of the building, which helps reduce costly errors.
Market research on the need for BIM-ready manufacturer’s content shows that 81% of BIM users would access this content for most or all of their product, material, and equipment needs with 92% of BIM users saying that manufacturer supplied BIM-ready content will either "make a difference", or "will definitely increase" the likelihood of that manufacturer’s products actually being procured and installed on the project. [1]
BPM's can satisfy these needs by developing a content strategy that will link their product designs with the sales and marketing objectives of the organization. By having BIM-ready models produced, BPM's can satisfy customers’ content and information requests. U.S. CAD is able to assist BPM's by building the BIM-ready models needed to deliver directly to architects, engineers, and builders.
The creation of BIM-ready models can address the key issues facing BPM's:
Win new business by gaining an advantage in winning project bids
Improve collaboration with architects, engineers, and construction professionals by providing them with the specialized information to maximize effectiveness and efficiency
Meet the sustainability goals required by today’s building owners
Autodesk Seek Inclusion (optional)Autodesk Seek Inclusion can provide BPM's, a new opportunity to target customers by making your products visible to designers while working directly in their CAD applications. With early design visibility, your products can be selected much earlier in the design process.
Autodesk Seek is the online source for building product information that delivers rich, high-quality 3D models, 2D drawings, visual images, and product details to the desktops of design professionals. With direct access to your building product information, designers can reduce the time spent searching for technical building product data at the earliest stages of their projects.
Autodesk Seek Inclusion gives BPM's the following benefits:
Direct to the Designer’s Desktop – Reach a market of millions of highly motivated AutoCAD and Revit designers who can easily find and select your products, placing them directly into their drawings or BIM projects. In addition, Autodesk Seek accepts virtually any CAD format, allowing you to reach design professionals regardless of the tools they use. Get Started in BIM – Autodesk Seek gives you the ability to showcase and differentiate your products beyond the simple listing pages found in directory or catalog services. Key performance characteristics of your products, such as "energy efficiency," can be uncovered using powerful BIM analytic tools.Market Intelligence – Gain awareness of designer activity much earlier in the building project cycle. Autodesk Seek can give you greater visibility into designer interest and their projects – before the bidding begins.
Content Creation ServicesThe BIM-ready content creation project is composed of two key elements:
U.S. CAD provides services to create high-quality, parametric BIM-ready content that meets AEC user expectations and specification needs while driving consistency and standards compliance for content uploaded to Autodesk Seek. Content is created with architectural and/or engineering oversight to ensure both model accuracy and usability. Specific focus is placed on relevant content metadata, content level of detail, and overall usability within a BIM project.
High-quality BIM-ready content as defined in the Seek Revit Model Style Guide and the Seek Metadata Style Guide developed by Autodesk.
